WILDLIFE CONSERVATION AWARD

The Conservation Wildlife Award was given to Mr. and Mrs. L. Bruce Hogshead.  Mr. Hogshead worked closely with National Resources Conservation Services to make his farm in Buckingham County a habitat for wildlife.   He enrolled in a federal program to create 7 brush piles to provide a habitat for quail.  He has spent a lot of time controlling invasive shrubs and fescue grass and used Virginia pines to create 38 brush piles for quail habitats.  He’s also planted wildflowers to attract pollinators.  His hard work has paid off—he and his wife jumped their first covey of quail on a snowy day last December.
